The Most Important Meal of the Day

The Most Important Meal of the Day

Some people think that skipping breakfast will help them lose weight, but that's not a good idea - it can backfire. Skipping meals, especially breakfast, can actually make weight control more difficult. People who don’t eat breakfast tend to eat more food than usual at the next meal, or nibble on high-calorie snacks to prevent hunger.

Short on time? Eating a wholesome, nutritious morning meal will probably save you time in the long run. By recharging the brain and body, you'll be more efficient in just about everything you do.

Morning Blender Juice:

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 ice cubes
  • A handful of mixed greens
  • 1/2 of an apple

Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend at high speed until liquefied. Drink immediately. Serving Size: one

  • 1 Whole Grain English Muffin (Ezekiel Food For Life English Muffin)
  • 1 Tbs. almond butter
  • 1 Tbs. ground flax seeds
  • 1/2 banana (sliced in half lengthwise)
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon

Mix together the almond butter, ground flax and cinnamon. While the muffin is still warm, spread the nut butter mixture onto 1 side of it. Top with banana and place other half of muffin on top, forming a sandwich. You are ready to go with a healthy breakfast in tow. Serving Size: one

This next recipe is my personal favorite creation. I believe this is one of the healthiest ways to fuel your day and it may even extend your life too. That is why I call it Life Porridge. Besides its omega-3 fat from the flax and the antioxidants from the berries, you get a healthy dose of fiber. What a great way to begin a day!

Life Porridge

  • 2 c. water
  • ¼ c. steel cut oats
  • ¼ c. whole oats
  • 2 tbs. oat bran
  • 1 – 2 tbs. ground flaxseed – or 1 tbs. flaxseed oil
  • ½ tsp. ground cinnamon

Bring water to a boil. Add steel cut oats and cook on low-medium heat for 15 minutes. Add whole oats and simmer on low for another 5 minutes. Remove the porridge from heat. Stir in the rest of the ingredients.  Serving Size: two (¾ of a cup)

Serving Suggestion

  • Add 1/2 cup fresh mixed berries or stir in frozen berries during the last 2 minutes of cooking just to thaw.
  • Top with 2 tbsp. slivered nuts of your choice.
  • Top with a small amount of raw honey (if a sweetener is absolutely necessary).
