Boost Your Metabolism Naturally

Age and genetics can slow down your metabolism, but there are things you can do to rev it up! If you want to turn your body's fat-burning potential up a notch, check out these four ways to wake up your calorie burn.

  1. Eat the correct foods: Slow-burning protein keeps you feeling full, and it also increases your metabolic rate as well! Your body has to work hard to digest all that nutrient rich food. Whole grains and citrus fruits are other foods that rev up your body's fat-burning potential.
  2. Eat at the right time: Eat breakfast shortly after you wake up to keep your metabolism humming along. Also, don't let yourself get too hungry — not only will you be more vulnerable to your cravings, but also more importantly, your metabolism will slow down to compensate for the lack of energy you're providing your body, so make sure to eat up!
  3. Start or amp up your strength training: If you're a cardio girl, you should add weight training to your routine. Muscles burn calories at a higher rate than fat, so the more muscle mass you have, the higher your metabolism. If you already incorportate strength training, try upping the intensity of your routine by adding weights, cross training, or adding pilates or yoga.
  4. Interval Train: Interval training can increase you endurance, stamina, and speed, not to mention increase your fat burn, so if you haven't incorporated interval training into your routine, now's the time to start!
